The local government of Asingan, led by Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr., convened a dialogue today with gasoline station owners, transport group representatives, farmers, and other stakeholders to address concerns over rising fuel prices and supply issues.

The meeting aimed to prevent unrest, ensure clear communication among affected sectors, and explore local measures to mitigate the impact on residents and the local economy. Mayor Lopez Jr. said the dialogue was intended to provide a forum where stakeholders could ask questions, share information, and coordinate responses.

Lopez Jr. added that the Department of Energy was invited to explain the factors behind the recent price increases, but the agency did not attend despite receiving the invitation on March 12. “We wanted to hear how these are determined so our people can understand and avoid blaming each other,” Mayor Lopez Jr. said.

Participants discussed price-setting mechanisms, supply chain concerns, and possible short-term measures to protect vulnerable groups. The mayor commended gasoline station owners in Asingan for exercising restraint and not immediately raising pump prices, noting that this helped prevent panic buying and ensured there was no disruption in fuel supply within the town.

Mayor Lopez Jr. called on all sectors to remain calm and united, urging transport operators, business owners, and residents to cooperate with the municipal government while awaiting further guidance from national agencies. He also encouraged gasoline retailers to continue transparent pricing practices and asked transport groups to coordinate on fare adjustments only after consultations with the LGU.

The municipal government pledged to keep the public informed of any developments and to pursue additional meetings with regional and national agencies to seek explanations and support. Residents with concerns or questions were advised to contact the Office of the Mayor or the Asingan Public Information Office for updates.
